Women’s Studies
I questioned the value of this course from the first day, and I have now been able to see is validity. What the book has taught me, AS WELL AS CHALLENGED ME, from the beginning is to question my ways. I have been looking into the world with a much broader aspect now and have seen a lot of light. I have realized that my recent feelings and views were not really that of my own but of someone elses. Thoughts that have been embedded in me since I was born. In the beginning of the class I truly thought feminist were crazy and out in left field and I am on the completely opposite side now. I think it is great what they are doing. I should be proud because they are fighting for MY rights. As a woman, it is empowering to know that I am not alone. I absolutely will take much from this class and teach my daughter things that should have been showed to me a long time ago. WE ARE ALL EQUAL!!!

So, is Christianity being questioned?
As I was reading Chapter 12 this week, I couldn’t help but question the part about “Religion as Oppressive To Women”. I am a Christian, therefore, I find it quiet troubling to see Christianity, basically, run through the mud. I think that the Bible speaks clearly, and if by some chance it is found to be judgemental towards women, then fine. There are certain instances and quotes from the Bible that signal a type of UNEQUALITy, however, if you truly believe in God then you would also see that there is some divine purpose for the “said, unsaid” unequality treatment. Maybe it is not God’s plan for men to be equal to women. Possibly God does favor men over women, but that is not something that really matters!!! If God was so partial, then why would women be allowed to bare a child (MIRACLE), and have certain emotions that have made moments in my life (particularly) so very special to me. Honestly I felt that this chapter crossed a barrier into religion, and went about it the wrong way. To explain that comment, I will direct you to the learning activity titled, ” Exploring New Metaphors for Deity.” It says, and I quote, ” God as mother”, It goes on to explain this by saying that the Jewish and Christian faith have long used the terms “God the Father, Shepard, King, Lord, and Master.” The thing about it is, that these religions believe that God is a father, because the Bible says he is. It is not a title that has been made up. The Bible does not refer to God, as God the mother, so it makes no sense to call God a mother when it clearly speaks of him as the Father. Apparently that is what God wanted to be called.

What is so wrong with being UNEQUAL?
I read Unequal, and also scanned peoples comments on it and my problem is why are people so oblivious to what is really going on? The real thing that is driving the “men better than women” idea/argument is RELIGION. The Muslim people are a prime example. People don’t understand much of what they do but all their actions are religion based. Same thing here in America. Everytime someone argues religion to me, I am constantly told that not everyone believes in God. That may be so but everyone has some sort of a religion. If you don’t believe in God then that is your religion, NON BELIEVER. There is so many questions about each and everything, because we are all aware of the reigious faiths and they all have different outcomes. You talk about women submitting to their husbands as if that is a man made idea. That is alledgedly from GOD. People who are true followers will not sit around and worry about the small things such as men being over women. I just find it to be wrong to try to argue this idea of equality between the sexes because, no matter how many things I read or how many times I am lectured at, my belief systems IS NOT FROM MAN, but God.

Pornography
The more I think about it the more upset I am getting. You can take just the simplest form of nudity and slap it in the same category as porn. These images are scanning the globe and warping peoples minds. Our children are growing up in a world that is full of sex crazed people who are not concerened about anything except money and fame. We keep questioning the media, and how they play such a huge role but in reality it is satan. This world is being run by the very essence of Satan. Everything he stands for is right here with us. I walked to the mailbox today and found a used condom on the side of the road. My first thought was what woman was violated by that very peoce of evidence. They couldn’t have had sex right there, so what was it doing there. It just symbolized trouble to me. Our worl is getting out of control and people have lost all respect for others. It will only continue to spiral out of control. There is nothing that anyone can do because you can’t help those who don’t want it. Many people don’t realize what they are doing.

Is the Media out of Control
This weeks lesson revolves around the idea that the media, whether it be: tv, radio, movies, or computers; is entirely male dominated. This being said, the things that are seen in the media are more male projected. For instance the oter day, in a magazine, I saw a woman holding a Dooney & Burke Bag but the interesting thing about that was, she was Stark Naked behind that bag. Why? It is a woman’s purse. Why do women need to see a sexy woman naked behind a bag. Shouldn’t that be more directed at men. I am not saying it is right either way but at least if you are going to show that then let it be a woman naked on a lawnmower or something. I am just simply saying. Anyways, it is just that the media fixes it into our brain that these things are normal. The older generation is able to see that it is not, the middle generation sees two sides to it but the younger generation thinks that it is absolutely right. That is why children are getting so out of hand, they don’t know what is REAL anymore. Everything is fabricated to meet the idea of a certain image. The oldre generations need to start helping these children see the truth because they are growing up in a world that is lost and doesn’t know which way is up or down.

Woman’s Work
The word work is defined as the process in which one exerts physical or mental efforts in order to do, make, or accomplish something, or make somebody do this. Of course it also defined as someone who has paid employment at a job. I bring this up to say this, anything that you do can be considered work and it rightfully should be considered work. However, I cannot say that only women are the ones who suffer from this “house chores” problem. For the first few years of my marriage, my husband was in the military and gone all the time. I had no children and was only 17 years old at the time. I actually came from a family that allowed me to be spoiled rotten; so, I never had a sense of work ethics or cleanliness. It was not that I was a dirty type of person, but I had just never had to wash my own dishes, or take out the trash, go get the mail, wash my clothes, mke my bed or sweep the floor, I think you get the point. My absolutely LOVED being a mother and nurturer, but she just ddn’t instill it into my sister and I. So when I was out in California living with my husband, first time away from home, I had to learn to do what she did. The funniest thing about the lesson this week is that it is saying men grow up expecting someone to do the housework for them, but I grow up with the same idea. So when my husband and I got together the result were quiet funny. I expected him to be picking up after me and he expected the same. After numerous arguments and disagreements on whose “job” was what, we compromised and understand now that it is not something that just one person should have to do because there is to much work. I mean really think about it. Maybe some of you do these things, and more power to you. How could one person wake up in the morning and start her day with a load of dishes and then move onto a load of laundry, all the while seperating garbage for trash pickup and then going through each individual room and beginning the daily cleanup of each room and in the meantime, get the kids ready for school, which in itself requires: a bath, breafast, clothes (may need ironing or changing if they get them dirty before you leave), getting their folders together, as well as getting your self dressed, then dropping everything you are doing and load them up in the car and take them to school. I mean I am tired just thinking about it all and that has all happened before 9 in the morning. It is just not something that anybody, male or female should be doing alone. It can become overwhelming and sooner or later actually depress you. Anyways, that is enough of my spill on that, but I will leave you with this, if you are one of those women, you really need to sit down and tell your husband or significant other that you are tired and need help. If they cannot understand where you are coming from then they are selfish.

Riverbend Blog Comments
Hello to you all,
After I read several postings at riverbendblogs.blogspot.com I realized that these people we consider Middle Eastern’s…are actually real people that have names, and parents, and jobs. They own land, and have belongings. What is amazing to me is that all we as American’s see is the bad parts, that they are horrible terrorist people that are plotting against America. Riverbend doesn’t say she likes what America is doing. She Says that they are there and have such a presence, to where there is so much violence and hate that is taking place around them. In one of her postings she talked about leaving and going to Jordan. The way she described the fear that she had was so intense. I cannot imagine walking out of my house right now and FEARING for my life. What would it be like to consider that everytime you told some bye, that it may be the last time you ever see them alive. It is insanity and disorder that is taking place in these countries. The United States is a big contributer to that as well. I am all for the war, but not when you lose sight of what you are fighting for, and innocent people lose their lives. River talks VERY highly of her family and how important they all are to each other. I didn’t really come across where she talked about non-Western countries regarding family, but I can say that one thing we do allow to happen is that we take our family for granted and just assume that they will always be there. The family is highly acknowledged there. I am going to keep up with her blog. Having a husband that is in the military, it is definently a topic of interest. Good read!

Health Insurance for the POOR
Are you considered to be a poor person? My husband and I have been lucky to experience a taste of outstanding medical insurance, due to his military involvment. However, he is getting honarbly discharged and all of that is about to be taken away. For the past 5 years I have not worried one time about medical insurance and now I am looking high and low for a deal that is even remotely similar. It is not present!! I talked to my husband about this briefly and he brought up an interesting point which is that the new insurance in America is called CREDIT/DEBT. People are not equipped with the insurance that they need because it is such a costly feature. So the majority of American’s just wait until there health is really poor, and then go to the emergency room for treatment. The problem with this is that they do not have the financial ability to pay for the bill, therefore, they begin the debt that will only grow because healthcare is only getting more and more expensive. Then you tack on children and spouses, this is when things really get out of control money wise. It is a sad situation that our health industry has become almost like a retail situation because if you do not have the money then you do not receive the same treatment as someone who is financially secure.

Beauty is not the product of perfection
What is beauty? Is it the color of your hair? The length of your legs? The number on the scale? Well it is, if you choose to believe the media!! The media has taken the concept of beauty and made a blueprint that equals perfection. Beauty is not perfection. It is not something made up on a computer or on the television. To me beauty is defined by your heart. Each person has their own insecurities and this it the cause of the mis perception of beauty. A perfect day for me would consist of not waking up and thinking that I look fat, or that I am having a bad hair day. My day should not be defined by what I look like, but since we are forced in numerous ways to think that this is how we should be, it is. God made each person on this planet to be different and unique. I have redefined my perseption of beauty. When I see a person who appears happy and all smiles, regardless of size, color, age…to me they are beautiful. They radiate happiness and show true beauty by the size or of their smile, or the twinkle in thier eye. There is so many times that I have had a bad day, and gone out and had someone give me a smile or a wave and that brightens my entire day. They are showing love for mankind and appreciation for life and to me that is what true beauty really is.
